Leonardo Da Vinci gold beating hammer design

Although gold beating had been around for over 4000 years, somewhere between 1452 -1519 Leonardo Da Vinci designed and drew a prototype gold beating hammer. It was nearly 400 years later that this rudimentary design became effective in mechanising the beating process.
