Recreating History: Restoring the Glory of Queen's Park Bridge

As part of a £4 million restoration project, the iconic lighting columns from the 1930s era that adorned Queen's Park Bridge in Heywood, Greater Manchester, have been meticulously recreated. The bridge, originally opened in 1933, faced deterioration due to rust and weather damage over the years.

With a keen eye for heritage preservation, lighting experts from Middleton-based company Metcraft undertook the task of rebuilding the five lighting columns on each side of the bridge, staying true to the original design. Notably, the skilled artisan Dave Thelwell handled the intricate gold leaf gilding, a craftsmanship that has garnered attention, even making its way to BBC news .

Anticipated with great excitement, the rejuvenated Queen's Park Bridge is set to reopen later this year, a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship involved in restoring this historical landmark to its former glory.
