RESTORATION OF ST GEORGE'S HALL, LIVERPOOL - DAVID THELWELL
Built between 1841 – 1855, St George's Hall was designed by Harvey Lonsdale Elmes while Charles Robert Cockerell created the interior of the Small Concert Room. The magnificent neoclassical decoration of this room has been restored to its original scheme and the fittings and services updated as part of a £23 million project to restore the whole building.
Sixteen years ago, he was held hostage by Saddam Hussein and forced to gild the walls of his palace. But specialist decorator and good friend of ours, David Thelwell's latest job has been in somewhat happier circumstances, having been hired to decorate St George's Hall's stunning concert room, including covering the walls with our 23.5ct Gold Leaf.
