Cardozo Kindersley Workshop Painting
Amazing work by @cardozokindersleyworkshop
"Precise painting lively, flowing italics on Welsh slate roofing tiles for a frieze. Scroll through for video and close-ups.
Because the face is rough riven we cannot flood paint and rub off the surface as we usually would on Welsh slate.
When precise painting these shallow letters we must keep the visual edge of the letter, rather than following the undulations in the stone.
We use long smooth strokes to achieve these defined edges.
This is a different technique to what we would use on a porous stone like Portland, where the surface is smooth and flat, but hard to see. In that case we would often dry brush up to the edge of the letter, defining its boundaries before painting in properly. This works especially well when the letter is very deeply cut as the brush doesn’t try to escape!
Thanks always to @lldslate for the beautiful stone and @wrightsoflymm for the paint."
